Time for tailgating



South Hagerstown High School will host its homecoming game Friday when the Rebels play Middletown High School at School Stadium.

For the past few years, many of the graduating classes have been coming together before the game for a tailgating party.

The gates will open at 4 p.m. at the practice field behind the visitors' bleachers. For more information, go to the South High Alumni's Web site at www.shhsrebelalumni.org.

Railroad celebration



The City of Hagerstown will host the End of Season Railroad Celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Hagerstown Railroad Museum in City Park.

The free event will feature antique tractor club barrel cart rides; a musical performance by James Haner, the Banjo Man; a special child-run Thomas the Tank Engine ride; Operation Lifesaver information; railroad coloring activity; Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum display; tours of the newly painted locomotive 202; onsite cabooses and the Western Maryland memorabilia collection; and model train prize giveaways.

Trick or treat



Halfway residents in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Bower Avenue in Halfway will celebrate the Halloween season with trick or treat on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Those wanting to hand out treats are asked to turn on an outdoor light.

Last Man's Club



The World War II Last Man's Club of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown will return wine glasses etched with past members' names to relatives on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the post home on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

Relatives of the deceased members can pick up the glasses at a ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 301-739-3146.

Church plans dinner



Grace United Methodist Church, at 712 Church St., Hagerstown, will host a slippery potpie dinner on Saturday. This will be an eat-in dinner. Chicken or ham potpie will be served along with peas or applesauce and a roll. Coffee or tea and dessert will also be served. Tickets cost $8.50 for adults and $3 for those 12 and younger. Grand Sunday Brunch



The American Cancer Society of Washington County will host its Grand Sunday Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Next Dimensions Restaurant on Sunday, Nov. 9. The honorees for this event will be the "Road to Recovery" volunteers. Lou Scally will be the master of ceremonies for the day and music will be provided by Panache Entertainment. Face painting will be done by Mary Jane Koontz. Magicians Hugh McVeagh, Dean Burkitt and Jim Greer will entertain. Tickets can be purchased at Next Dimensions, at 132 Old National Pike, Hagerstown. Fall fest



Valley Mall will host a fall festival Saturday which will include a reptile show, games, prizes, a fall craft area and fall food drive.
