October 21, 2008

Firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a house fire in the 20600 block of Jefferson Boulevard, the State Fire Marshal said.

The fire, which was discovered by someone in the home, caused about $25,000 in damage to the two-story, wooden frame, singe-family home, Deputy State Fire Marshal Ed Ernst said in a news release.

About 40 firefighters from Hagerstown, Smithsburg, Leitersburg, Mt. Aetna, Maugansville and Funkstown responded. They had the fire under control in 25 minutes, Ernst said.

Community Rescue Services, Inc., the Special Operations unit and Air and Rehab units also responded.

Investigators are still determining what caused the fire and where it started, Ernst said.
