Community theater group now forming



A new community theater group is forming in Washington County and holding an informal meeting at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the back room at Oliver's Pub in Longmeadow Shopping Center in Hagerstown. Light refreshments will be provided.

All theater enthusiasts who are tired of traveling out of the area to enjoy theater that goes "outside the box" are invited to attend.

Business professionals as well as individuals with experience in grant writing, fundraising, and bookkeeping are encouraged to attend. No obligation or commitment. For more information, e-mail jeff@4stateauditions.info.

Pa. artist wins popular award



Philip Colgan of Etters, Pa., was awarded the Popular Prize for his oil painting "Daybreak" at the 2008 Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition.

Visitors and patrons to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown voted for the top prize. Colgan received $100 in art supplies from Howard's Art Supplies & Frames Inc.on Dual Highway.

Honorable mention goes to Janet Siegmann Salter of Hagerstown, for her oil painting "Miss Virginia"; and Donna Fink of Pasadena, Md., for her watercolor "Kimono."
