Robinwood Surgery Center celebrates 15th anniversary

October 19, 2008

Frances Smallwood came to see her friends and reminisce at Robinwood Surgery Center's 15th anniversary celebration Oct. 3.

Smallwood retired from the center earlier this year after working there since it opened in 1993.

"I was one of the nurses who was brought over from the hospital to the surgery center when it opened," said Smallwood.

She said that in the beginning, the center primarily performed general surgery and urological procedures. "Now there are a lot more specialties and a lot more physicians," she said.

"We've evolved with time," said Lana Gladhill, the center's director, "We now offer cataract surgery, tonsillectomy, and orthopedic procedures and continue to grow as more surgeries are geared toward outpatient procedures." Gladhill said the center maintains state-of-the-art equipment to keep up with medical advances.

More than 100,000 procedures have been performed and of those the infection and complication rates have been extremely low, according to Gladhill. "We have a well seasoned staff who have been able to perfect things over time," she said.

Robinwood Surgery Center is a division of Washington County Health System. The center utilizes six operating rooms, an endoscopy suite, and a procedure room to provide more than 40 different outpatient surgical procedures by nearly 90 surgeons. The center typically services between 20 and 50 patients a day.
