Hagerstown CAP Squadron member promoted

Meredith M. Phares, a 10-year member of the Hagerstown Civil Air Patrol Squadron, was recently promoted to lieutenant colonel.

Phares's present duty is deputy commander of the cadets, a program that teaches leadership and aerospace education to 12 to 18 year olds. She has served on the staff at the National Honor Guard Academy and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Regional Staff College in July. Col. Phares has received the leadership ribbon and Commanders Commendation Award.

Phares is a graduate of Towson University with a bachelor's and master's degree in speech pathology. She is employed in her career field with the Washington County Board of Education. She also served with the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Andrews AFB, Md.

The Hagerstown Squadron meets Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jarkey Drive, Washington County Regional Airport. The building is behind Nick's Airport Inn. The age requirement for cadets is 12 to 18.
