McCarty installed as deacon at St. Paul's

The Rev. Deacon Steven McCarty was instituted as the first deacon of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, at a special service Oct. 12.

This celebration of new ministry service was led by Saint Paul's rector, the Rev. Mark Michael, and also involved many local clergy and members of the congregation. A reception followed in the parish hall. McCarty is a Washington County native and also works as a schools resource officer for the Sheriff's Department at Williamsport High School. He will lead the congregation in service to the community.

Orr to speak at Historical Society meeting Monday

Local low-carbon workshop leader Lisa Orr will speak to participants at the Keedysville Historical Society meeting on "The Low Carbon Diet for Owners of Houses-Old and New" Monday at 7 p.m. at the Keedysville Library near Taylor Park. Orr will give tips and resources to participants at the meeting on how to heat homes more efficiently and lower electricity, fuel oil and gas bills. Orr will also tell how she and her husband dramatically lowered the energy costs of their 19th century home in Burkettsville. Light refreshments will be served. New Hope church to meet

Rohrersville Ruritan to hold oyster supper

The Rohrersville Ruritan Club will hold an all-you-can-eat oyster, ham and turkey supper Saturday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ruritan School in Rohrersville. Bring containers for carry-outs.

The supper costs $14 for adults (tax included) and $7 for those ages 6 to 12 (tax included). Children younger than 6 will be admitted free. Fire company plans gun bonanza

The Potomac Valley Fire Co. will hold advance sales for the Nov. 8 gun bonanza. Tickets cost $40. Buy $10 tickets now for the "12 Days of Christmas Gun Raffle." One drawing for 12 days, starting Dec. 14. For more information, call 301-432-2130 (leave message.)

Jackie Willison to speak at senior site

Jackie Willison will speak on the topic "You Be The Judge" Monday at the senior site in Keedysville at the Little Antietam Community Center, 40 Mt. Vernon Drive.
