Jefferson County to spread duties of administrator

October 17, 2008|By DAVE McMILLION

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Jefferson County Commission member Greg Corliss on Thursday successfully pushed through a reorganization of county government that would shift some of County Administrator Leslie Smith's duties to other areas.

Commissioner Dale Manuel called the idea "ludicrous" because Corliss was proposing it just a little more than two months before Corliss and Commissioner Rusty Morgan leave office. Manuel also criticized the move because of Smith's high qualifications to handle the duties being discussed.

Corliss said he was proposing the reorganization because he felt that Smith was overworked with some duties.

Among Corliss's proposed changes was transferring budget management from Smith's office to the Department of Capital Planning and Management. That move passed on a 4-1 vote with Manuel voting no.
