Bid for possible sale of Berkeley Springs hospital comes in low

October 16, 2008|By TRISH RUDDER

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- A bid from Valley Health was the lone one submitted and opened Wednesday in response to a possible sale of the county-owned War Memorial Hospital. The bid offered $1.5 million as a cash payment to the county.

Morgan County Commission president Glen R. Stotler read the bid proposal in front of the Magistrate Courthouse.

"The offer was much lower than the commissioners expected it to be," Stotler said.

He said the commissioners will review the proposal and compare the county's terms and conditions.

"We have the right to reject all bids and we have the right to prepare another RFP (Request for Proposal) if need be," Stotler said.

West Virginia University Hospitals and West Virginia University Hospitals-East requested an RFP but did not submit a proposal, he said.

Commissioners Thomas R. Swaim and Brenda J. Hutchinson did not want to comment on Valley Health's proposal until after they reviewed it.
