Memorial trees being sold for Washington Township park

October 16, 2008

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Memorial trees are being sold for the new Antietam Meadow Park off North Welty Road in Washington Township, Pa.

Trees can be purchased for a minimum donation of $150.

The Antietam Watershed Association, which is overseeing the tree program, plans to use trees native to Pennsylvania and created a list of species from which donors can choose a tree, according to a news release.

Since memorial plaques have been misplaced in other parks, the watershed association decided to put tree information inside a glass-enclosed, locked bulletin board at the entrance to Antietam Meadow Park.

The watershed association promised to provide water to sustain the tree for the first three years, the news release states.

Donors have been invited to bring guests to the tree planting and hold a memorial service if desired.
