Funkstown mulls ways to spend allocations

October 14, 2008

FUNKSTOWN - The first installments in the hotel-motel tax allocations have arrived in Funkstown, about which town officials expressed surprise and delight at Monday night's monthly meeting.

Councilwoman Sharon Chirgott said she looked at the amounts of the July and August checks and believed that was as much as the town was going to get for the year.

But Town Clerk Brenda Haynes said the town should be getting approximately $15,000. The July check was for $1,578 and the August checked totaled $1,628.

"The money has to be used for projects," Haynes said.

Chirgott suggested that the mayor and council come up with a list of possible projects that would attract tourists and fund projects for the townspeople's enjoyment of their town.

As a first expenditure, Chirgott moved to pay the school bands for appearing in the upcoming Halloween parade on Oct. 30. The plan was approved.
