Teen, preteen pageants

Contestants are sought for Miss Teen Washington County International and Miss Pre teen Washington County International.

Winners of the title will receive an all-expense paid trip to compete in the Miss Teen International competition in Chicago.

Miss Teen applicants must be between 13 and 18 years old and live or attend school in Maryland. Contestants will compete in personal interview, aerobic wear, fun fashion and evening gown.

Miss Pre teen Washington County International must be 10 years old by April 3, 2009, and not turning 13 before July 2009. Applicants must live in Maryland or have a parent or a grandparent who is a resident of Maryland. Contestants will compete in on stage introduction, fun fashion wear and formal wear (ball gown). The winner will receive a free entry into the Miss Teen Maryland International Pageant when they are eligible.

Youth field trip

Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery Inc. is sponsoring a youth field trip on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, to The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture in Baltimore. The group will depart at 8:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.

Cheerleading clinic

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- The Penn State Mont Alto cheerleading squad will host its fifth annual Cheerleading Clinic on Sunday, Nov. 9, in the Multipurpose Activities Center on campus. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the clinic will run from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event is open to girls between the ages of 4 and 18. Cheerleaders can register individually or as a team. The cost is $20 per participant and includes a T-shirt. Cheerleaders will learn new cheers and dance routines and will have the opportunity to work on jumps, stunts and tumbling.

Admissions open house, Fall Fest at PSU-Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- Penn State Mont Alto will host an admissions open house on Saturday, Oct. 25, for individuals who are interested in attending Penn State.

There also will be Fall Fest with activities throughout the day. The event is open to the public.

The open house will begin at 10 a.m. in the MAC building. Admissions counselors will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about Penn State academic programs, the admissions process, the application process, financial aid and more. Lunch and a tour of the campus will be provided.

Prospective students and their families may check in anytime after 9:15 a.m. Light refreshments will be available before the program.

The Fall Fest, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is hosted by student organizations.

In addition to free old time photos and free wax hands, there will be various children's activities including a costume contest, trick or treat, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting and face painting. Proceeds benefit student clubs on the campus.

The Mont Alto Woodsmen Team will offer a demonstration from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Events include an ax throw, crosscut sawing, bolt split, pole climb and chopping. Alumni who wish to participate in timbersports activities may register at 11 a.m.
