Ask SCORE - Options are available for answering questions

Q: A couple of times, I have set daytime appointments with a local SCORE counselor. Since I work "down the road," I couldn't make it back to Hagerstown in time for the appointments. Are there any options to daytime appointments? Also, have you changed the location of the SCORE tax workshop?

A: SCORE is a national association of active and retired businessmen and women who volunteer to share their expertise with small businesses and new business startups, as well as those who are thinking about going into business. · Counseling. Meet with one of our experienced advisers for a confidential one-on-one session at our downtown location.

· Field counseling. We will come to your place of business for an in-depth assessment of your business needs.

Yes, our public service tax workshop is moving to downtown Hagerstown. Presented in cooperation with CPA firm Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. LLC and the Internal Revenue Service, the workshop focuses on helping attendees understand the filing requirements for the 2008 state and federal tax returns.

This basic program covers business tax requirements; business use of the home; Employer's Annual Unemployment Tax Return (940) and Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax (941); and employment taxes, such as federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare.

The workshop will be Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Center for Business and Training at 14 N. Potomac St., Suite 200, in Hagerstown, adjacent to the city parking area.
