Westview Baptist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., Broken Before the Throne conference will begin today with afternoon sessions each day from 1 to 4 p.m. through Oct. 17, morning sessions from 8 to 11 a.m. from Oct. 12 to 17, and evening sessions Oct. 11 to 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. Designed around strengthening faith through nine hours of prayer and worship daily, the conference will feature guest speakers at each session.

Potomac Charge, Big Pool, the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church will celebrate its 125th anniversary today at 4:30 p.m. with St. Paul UMC hosting a ham and chicken potpie dinner, corner of Ernstville Road and Tedrick Drive, followed with a concert by Not Forgotten at 6 p.m. On Sunday, there will be a catered dinner at 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul's followed by a celebration at Mount Carmel at 2 p.m.

Smithsburg Lions Club Park, the annual Dean Mouk Memorial Walk for the Hungry will be Sunday at 1 p.m., when walkers gather for the walk to Welty Church of the Brethren and back. Funds collected will support the Smithsburg area food bank and Helping Hand fund. The walk is sponsored by the friends and members of the Smithsburg Area Church Association (SACA).
