Two Martinsburg men face drug charges

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Two men were in Eastern Regional Jail Friday night after police allege they took part in a crack cocaine deal with a person who was cooperating with members of the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, according to jail and court records.

Lorenzo James Parson, 55, of 846 Marquette Drive in Martinsburg was arraigned by Berkeley County Magistrate Jim Humphrey on one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and driving while his license was suspended third offense, according to court records.

Gilbert Coleman Shepherd, 52, of 834 Douglas Grove Road in Martinsburg, was arraigned by Humphrey on one felony count of delivery of a controlled substance, according to court records.

According to a complaint filed against the men in Berkeley County Magistrate Court, a $1,200 crack cocaine purchase occurred Thursday at Shepherd's home. After the deal, a Mercedes Benz that Parson was driving on Kelly Island Road was stopped at 3:40 p.m. by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Burkhart and the defendant was arrested, according to court records.
