October 10, 2008

SHARPSBURG - Annette Ipsan, Extension Educator for Horticulture for the Maryland Cooperative Extension in Washington County, will give a free talk on winterizing the garden at the Sharpsburg Library on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Ipsan will demonstrate techniques such as division of perennials, bulbs and ornamental grasses with live plant material. She will show participants how to cut back plants and discuss leaving some plants standing for wildlife and winter interest.

Participants will learn which plants should be cut down for winter and which benefit from an early spring trimming. They will learn how often perennials and bulbs should be divided and when to divide them for best results.

To register, call the Sharpsburg Library at 301-432-8825 between 2 and 8 p.m.
