U.S. 30 in Hamilton Township closed for hours after accident

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- U.S. 30 near Sollenberger Road in Hamilton Township was closed for more than five hours Thursday afternoon after a vehicle struck a utility pole.

The crash occurred at 3:44 p.m. just west of Chambersburg, a Franklin County 911 dispatcher said. The road was reopened at about 9:15 p.m. the dispatcher said.

Franklin Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Mark Trace said a sport utility vehicle sheared the pole in half, leaving live power lines hanging over the highway. He did not believe the driver was seriously injured.

The crash knocked out power to traffic lights between Sollenberger and Warm Spring Road, Trace said. Traffic was detoured onto Sollenberger, Brechbill and Crottlestown roads back onto U.S. 30, he said.
