Martinsburg man charged after drugs, firearms seized

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man was taken into custody Thursday night following an investigation into suspected illegal drug activity at his residence, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

John N. Douglas, 53, of 81 Trimble Ave., was charged with one felony count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. He was being held at Eastern Regional Jail this morning awaiting arraignment by a state magistrate, the release said.

Following an investigation that began in July, the sheriff's office obtained a search warrant and served it at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the release said.

About 12 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $3,000 to $5,000 were seized, along with five grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, firearms and a large amount of U.S. currency, the release said.
