$50,000 approved for Hancock bridge project

October 09, 2008

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced in late September that the Board of Public Works approved $50,000 in Program Open Space funds for the new bridge at Kirkwood Park in Hancock.

The bridge replaced one that was destroyed by storms in 2004.

The new bridge cost about $338,000, Town Manager David Smith said in May. About $225,000 was reimbursed through grants, he said.

The new bridge is 16 feet wide and 60 feet long and can support heavy trucks, Smith said.
