The top five things to do this weekend

October 09, 2008

Race to the White House continues

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Barrack Obama (D-Ill.) give the undecided another chance to make up their minds at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Maverick debates the Candidate Who Promises Change You Can Count On on domestic and economic issues. Sorry, no "House" tonight. Watch the debate on CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and C-SPAN.

Teach your children good music

Throw on your tie-dye T-shirts and "Love the One You're With." Folk rock legends David Crosby and Graham Nash perform for one night only at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University.

Strike up the band

Ahh, the smell of valve oil and hot chocolate -- it's "Showcase of Bands" time. This Tuesday-night event at Hagerstown High School Stadium is a staple for Washington County band geeks and fans. Read page B? Also, Assistant Lifestyle Editor Crystal Schelle, a former band geek and "Showcase" alumnae, blogs about her memories of the show at www.herald-mail.com/blogs/schelle.

'Rent' has its due

The good news is that the running time for the Martinsburg High School's production of "Rent" isn't "525,600 minutes," like the song goes. The bad news? You'll be singing the songs from the show for the next few weeks. The student production, which features young thespians from five West Virginia high schools, will be staged at Martinsburg High.

Take your mama out tonight

Call a sitter. It's "Mama's Night Out" at The Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, Pa. This trio of funny mommies say that motherhood isn't what their show's all about. It's about having a good time -- usually without the kids.
