Oprah to spotlight Washington County house raffle today

October 08, 2008

The raffle that drew worldwide clamor for tickets to win a Washington County house will reach a new level of acclaim Wednesday.

It's to be in the spotlight - very briefly - on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" this afternoon.

"This is so exciting," said local Realtor Cynthia Moler, who helped San Mar Children's Home in the house raffle. The charity had expected to net more than $200,000 from the raffle for its programs to help girls at its facilities near Boonsboro.

The nationally syndicated talk show will include a brief mention of the raffle in a show focusing on "people being thrifty in the economy and getting creative with their houses and money," Oprah production staff member Jason Bellue said Tuesday.

Mention of the San Mar raffle, which the TV show learned about from a recent New York Times article, will be "a very, very quick hit" during Wednesday's show, Bellue said. "It's literally only going to be a few seconds," he said.

The show is to air at 4 p.m. on NBC25 in Hagerstown.
