Two hurt in accident on Sharpsburg Pike

October 07, 2008

Two people were taken to the hospital Monday morning after a vehicle accident on Sharpsburg Pike in the area of Poffenberger Road, troopers said.

The accident was reported at 8:12 a.m.

Workers at Keplinger's Automotive Center heard the crash, which they described as a head-on collision.

"I could hear the woman screaming from here," said Scott Keplinger as he stood in the business' lobby.

A woman in a minivan and a man wearing a correctional officer uniform driving a Pontiac Grand Am were involved in the crash, Keplinger said.

The man was out of his vehicle but bleeding from his nose shortly after the crash, he said.

Bystanders removed a shard of glass from the woman's finger, while Keplinger held her hand and urged her to stay calm, he said.

He didn't want to get the woman out of her van because moving her could cause further injuries, Keplinger said.

Troopers were still investigating the accident Monday afternoon. No charges had been filed.
