Boonsboro Library to host Lincoln exhibit

October 07, 2008

BOONSBORO The founder of Maryland's Carbon Reduction Action Group will speak at the next Boonsboro Recycling Task Force meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Community Center in Shafer Park. The event is free and open to the public.

Shannon Moore of Frederick, Md., will discuss the mission of CRAG members to voluntarily reduce their carbon footprint by saving energy on vehicle and home-heating fuel, electricity and flights.

"Footprint" means how much carbon dioxide an individual is personally responsible for releasing into the atmosphere through daily life. It is estimated at about 26,000 pounds (or 13 tons) a year for the average American, according to Moore, whose group aims to be 10 percent below that by year's end.

Moore, an environmental manager with the Frederick County government in her professional life, also will discuss the impact of household waste and recycling on carbon emissions.
