Literacy Council of Washington County to hold seminar for volunteers

October 07, 2008

Literacy Council of Washington County will hold a free, two-part workshop for new volunteer literacy tutors on two consecutive Saturdays: Part I, Oct. 11, and Part II, Oct. 18. Deadline for registration by phone is Thursday, Oct. 9, at noon.

Included in the first session will be teaching English as a second language, a skill especially relevant today in meeting the needs of the refugee/immigrant population now living and working in the Hagerstown area.

The workshop will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, corner of North Potomac Street and Randolph Avenue in Hagerstown from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants provide their own bagged lunch. Cold drinks and coffee will be provided by the church. Parking is available behind the church.

Local instructors Becky Hein and Barbara Creager will be assisted by Caroline Gaver and Joyce Routzahn of the Frederick County Literacy Council.
