October 06, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. - The Community Foundation of Frederick County has announced that Ann Czapski is the first recipient of the Dr. Gerry McGreevy Scholarship.

A 2008 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School in Cumberland, Md., Czapski will study education and mathematics at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Md.

Along with the McGreevy family, Joyce McGreevy created the Dr. Gerry McGreevy Scholarship Fund to honor the memory of her late husband, Frederick dentist and community volunteer Dr. Arnold G. "Gerry" McGreevy.

The fund awards scholarships to Bishop Walsh High School students who attend Mount St. Mary's University.

McGreevy was a graduate of both schools.

Memorial funds are one of the many ways the Community Foundation of Frederick County helps individuals, families and organizations support a range of worthy causes.

More than one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones.

The Community Foundation has provided more than $19 million in grants and scholarships throughout Frederick County.
