Smithsburg Lions host special district guests

October 05, 2008

The Smithsburg Lions Club held its regular meeting on Sept. 10 at Golden Corral Restaurant.

District 22-W Gov. Susan Timmons and District Cabinet Treasurer Paul Leatherman were guests of honor.

Timmons spoke to the club regarding her year in this position and her recent trip to Thailand for the Lions International Convention.

She reviewed her goals for the coming year and the goal of all of the Lions Clubs to increase membership.

Timmons presented Paul "Nick" Shillinger with a 25-year chevron for his longevity in the Lions organization. Timmons also presented Barbara Weaver with certificates for 100 percent newsletter editor and 100 percent secretary.

The Lions Club International was formed in 1917 by Melvin Jones as a service organization for members to give back to the communities.
