Woodsboro man pleads guilty in shooting death of estranged wife

October 03, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Woodsboro man has pleaded guilty in the fatal shooting of his estranged wife.

Fifty-eight-year-old Charles Hahn pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder. In exchange for his plea, he will avoid the possibility of being sentenced to death. Under the plea agreement, Hahn will be ordered to serve life in prison without parole when he is sentenced Oct. 30.

Hahn's 45-year-old wife Pamela was shot three times at close range Oct. 28, 2007. 911 dispatchers heard the gunfire after the woman called them for help. Hahn gave no explanation for the slaying.

Had the case gone to trial, prosecutors say witnesses would have testified that Hahn bought a handgun about six weeks before the murder.
