Hymn sing set for Friday 

Boonsboro Family Worship Center will host its final Friday evening hymn sing of the year featuring The Millville Quartet on Friday at 7 p.m. Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted to offset the cost. The center is at 7605 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.

Fire prevention

The Boonsboro Fire Department will have a Fire Prevention Week display at the new library on Saturday. Melanie Kesecker will be the presenter.

Chicken barbecue 

The Boonsboro Lions Club will hold its fall chicken barbecue on Saturday in the lot next to Hagerstown Trust on North Main Street.

The club will be using the same "private blend" of spices that it has used the past several years. The club will be serving from 10 a.m. until the chicken is sold out. 


League sign-up 

The Boonsboro Area Boys Basketball League will hold registration on Oct. 7 and 9. Students in grades three through eight can register for the league. The fee for play, including fundraising, costs $70. This is the first year the league has expanded to include seventh and eighth grade teams. Field cleanup

South Mountain Little League will hold a fall cleanup of its fields on Saturday, Oct. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. The rain date will be Saturday, Oct. 18, beginning at 8 a.m.


The founder of Maryland's Carbon Reduction Action Group, Shannon Moore, will speak at the next Boonsboro Recycling Task Force meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Community Center in Shafer Park in Boonsboro. 

Moore will discuss her group's mission to voluntarily reduce their carbon footprint by saving energy from vehicle fuel, home heating fuel, electricity and flights in addition to the impact of household waste and recycling on carbon emissions. The event is free and open to the public.

Managers sought 

South Mountain Little League is looking for managers for the 2009 baseball season. Interested volunteers should contact league president John Saunders at or if interested. This is for all levels of play, from T-ball through senior league. Letters of interest should be submitted by Oct. 31.

Basket bingo 

A basket bingo will be sponsored by South Mountain Little League on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Boonsboro Fire Hall. Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 for 25 games including five specials. Receive an extra pack of specials for prepayment. All bingo baskets will be combo's and filled. Everyone must have a paid ticket stub to enter the nonsmoking event, and no on under 13 will be admitted.
