Dawson to play at musical evening

Church organist Jonas Dawson will play inspirational spiritual music at Mt. Vernon Reformed United Church of Christ, 64 S. Main St., Keedysville, Sunday from 6:15 to 8 p.m.

A $10 donation is asked for this concert to help defray the costs for repairs to the original 1892 slate roof, chimney and interior and exterior of the church caused by the high winds of a storm in June. Tickets are available by calling 301-797-6290 or 301-797-0903. Advance ticket reservations are recommended.

Revival planned

Sharpsburg Bible Church, at the corner of Antietam and Potomac streets in Sharpsburg, will hold a revival from Sunday to Wednesday.


The service will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. on subsequent days. The Rev. Sam Martz will preach each night and The Nunamakers will provide special music. In addition, the church is selling 20 used burgundy-and-cream choir robes for $20 each. These robes are in good condition; some are new. Call Gene Renner 301-739-1882.


The South Washington County CROP Hunger Walk will be Sunday at Taylor Park in Keedysville beginning with registration and the Rohrersville Band Concert at 1 p.m.

The walk begins at 2 p.m. Walkers may donate or sign up online at www.cropwalkon (click on Maryland and then click on South Washington County CROP Hunger Walk). All walkers with $50 or more in donations will get a free 2008 CROP T-shirt. Twenty-five percent of the money raised will go to the South County Food Bank. For more information, call the Rev. Yard, bake sale

Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville will hold an indoor yard sale and soup/homebaked goods sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 .m. The function will be indoors at the church hall at the intersection of Md. 67 and Locust Grove Road. Furniture, clothing, children's toys and other items will be offered at the free yard sale (donations are accepted).

Country ham sandwiches, homemade soups and baked goods will be on sale. Proceeds from this event will go to the Mt. Zion Needy Family Fund.

Animals to be blessed

Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 W. Main St., Sharpsburg, will celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi with a service of evening prayer and the blessing of animals on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

People are invited to bring their pets to receive a special blessing and collar medal. The service will be held in the churchyard, or in case of inclement weather, in the parish hall.
