Emmitsburg mayor, town commissioner re-elected

October 01, 2008

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Emmitsburg Mayor James Hoover and town commissioner Christopher Staiger have been re-elected in an uncontested election.

Hoover says he's concerned that Tuesday's election was the second consecutive uncontested election for the town and that only 51 ballots were cast.

Hoover, who will be serving a third term as mayor, says he hopes to continue to strengthen relationships between the town, community organizations and Mount St. Mary's University.

Staiger, who will be serving a second term as commissioner, wants to encourage more participation in government and keep government decisions from taking place "over the heads" of the community.
