Vandalism reported at C&O Canal National Historical Park in Allegany County, Md.

The National Park Service is seeking information regarding vandalism, theft, and a fire that occurred on Sept. 19 at Locks 74 and 75 within the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park located off PPG Road near Cumberland, Md.

Vandals broke into the historic lockhouse, caused extensive damage to the building, stole artifacts, and set a portable toilet located in the parking lot on fire, the Park Service said in an e-mailed release.

Park Rangers have increased patrols in this and nearby areas to prevent further vandalism.

Anyone with information regarding this crime or with information about any persons or activities involved in this act may call the National Park Service toll free at 888-677-6677 or, contact Park Ranger Huelskamp at 301-722-0543.

A reward is being offered to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the vandalism, the release says.
