September 29, 2008

WILLIAMSPORT -- An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle at the Williamsport exit of southbound Interstate 81 shut down midafternoon traffic today while emergency personnel worked to free a trapped occupant and vehicles were being removed from the road, Maryland State Police said.

The road was reopened at 4:10 p.m., according to police.

Emergency dispatchers said the call came in at 3:01 p.m. today. Fire and ambulance equipment from both Williamsport and Halfway were sent to the scene.

At first traffic wasn't completely blocked but was slowed by the vehicles involved in the accident and the emergency responders, dispatchers said.

One dispatcher said that accident occurred just after and in close proximity to an earlier accident where three people refused medical treatment.
