Two Hagerstown men were charged Friday night after detectives with the Street Crime Unit of the Hagerstown Police Department conducted an undercover operation targeting street-level drug dealing in the downtown area, according to a police department press release.

Justin Lawrence, 18, of 837 Mulberry Ave., was charged with distribution of marijuana, possession of marijuana, conspiracy to distribute marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, police said.

Tony Grant, 18, of 215 Naples Drive, was charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, police said.

During the operation, which occurred at 8:10 p.m., a confidential informant contacted several males in the area of 103 E. Washington St., police said. One of the males made a phone call and arranged for someone to deliver marijuana to the informant, police said.

The informant purchased $50 worth of marijuana from Lawrence, police said. After the deal was made, detectives moved in to apprehend Lawrence, who attempted to run but was quickly taken into custody, police said. Grant, who set up the deal, also was arrested, police said.
