C&O Canal family reunion scheduled

September 26, 2008

WILLIAMSPORT - A C&O Canal family reunion at the Cushwa Basin is planned for Saturday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Anyone may attend if they recall the days when the C&O Canal was still operating more than 80 years ago, are a descendent of a canaller, have tales that have been passed down through families or would like to learn more about the people who worked the canal.

Along the length of 184.5-mile canal, there are families who link their heritage to the canal during the years when it still operated.

Some families are descendents of canal boat operators, lock keepers or workers who labored to build the canal or traded goods and services along the canal.
