Maugansville school invites community for re-opening on Oct. 7

On Oct. 7, the Maugansville community is invited to join the school for its grand re-opening celebration from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The evening will consist of touring the new building, learning more about Coalition of Essential Schools and viewing a historical display of Maugansville Elementary School.

Those of you who do not have school children, but would like to see the new school, call 301-766-8230 and let them know you will be attending and how many are in your party. Light refreshments will be served.

Church says thanks

Thanks to everyone who helped make the sixth annual benefit auction at Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship such a success. Held Aug. 23, the day began with a gospel concert featuring By Faith, followed by the auction, food and fellowship.

The church wishes to express its appreciation to everyone involved, including the many area businesses who donated items and gift certificates and to everyone in the community who attended and helped to make the day special.

The community is invited to Sunday morning worship. The church is at 14010 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown. For more information, call 301-791-5432.

Maugansville Fire Company news

The Maugansville Fire Company will hold a basket bingo on Sunday, Oct. 26. For more information, call 301-797-6770.

Fire Prevention Week is coming. Your home should be a safe haven, but do you regularly check for home fire hazards? If not, there is the potential for danger. Fire departments responded to nearly 400,000 home fires in 2006. That's why the theme of Fire Prevention Week 2008 is "It's Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Home Fires!"

From Oct. 5 to 11, fire safety advocates will spread the word in their communities that, with a little extra caution, preventing the leading causes of home fires - cooking, heating, electrical and smoking-materials - is within their power.

Harvest party

Zion Assembly of God will hold a harvest party on Sunday. The community is invited to the event, which will include a three-legged sack race, egg relay, pie eating contest, watermelon seed spitting contest and other activities. For more information, call 301-739-3888.
