Washington County Special Response Team getting new gear

September 24, 2008|By JOSHUA BOWMAN

The Washington County Special Response Team will get new tactical vests and accessories under a purchasing agreement approved Tuesday by the Washington County Commissioners.

The commissioners approved the purchase of the equipment from Safety League Inc. of New Cumberland, Pa., for $26,790.40.

The purchase includes 16 tactical vests and accessories like ballistic sleeves, pouches and groin protectors.

New equipment is needed because the team's current vests are 10 years old, Hagerstown Police Department Lt. Mark Holtzman said.

Manufacturers recommend that tactical vests be replaced after five years, he said.
