Frederick County teachers plan job action Friday

September 23, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County public school teachers say they are planning a job action this Friday after the school board said it won't offer them a contract this year.

The Frederick County Teachers Association says its members won't grade papers or work on lesson plans during lunch and will leave at the end of their duty hours. That means they won't tutor students or chaperone dances.

Yet to be seen is whether coaches will participate in football games scheduled for Friday. Coaching agreements are separate from the teaching contract.

Negotiators on a contract for the current school year declared an impasse in May. The union has accepted an arbitrator's report, but the board has not.
