Flu clinic

The Washington County Health Department will sponsor an influenza vaccination clinic for adults 18 years of age and older on Friday, Oct. 3, from 3 to 6 p.m., at South Hagerstown High School. No appointments are needed. Medicare or a $20 donation will be accepted.

St. John's

St John's Lutheran Church has returned to a full fall schedule of worship and education opportunities.

Traditional worship is offered in the sanctuary at 8 and 11 a.m., with communion on the first Sunday of the month. The 9 Alive informal communion worship is in the Worship Center at 9 a.m.


Confirmation classes for sixth- and seventh-graders, as well as Sunday school classes for all ages, are at 10 a.m. in the education puilding.

St. John's will hold its annual church picnic on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Veterans Park in Smithsburg. A blended service will be held at the picnic grounds at 11 a.m. (there will be no worship services or Sunday school at St. John's that day), followed by a picnic lunch. Meat, drinks and paper supplies will be provided. Please bring a covered dish to share.

Historic Heights

Historic Heights Neighborhoods 1st group meets the second Monday of each month at St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 S Prospect St. The meetings are a good way to meet your neighbors and build a sense of community.

The area is comprised of South Prospect Street, Summit Avenue and Walnut Street.

Tuesday - Cindy Blackstock, the city's community development coordinator, will talk about "What's Hot and What's Not in the City."

Discovery Station

Saturday - Yogi Martin will talk about "Sharing Successful Cornea Transplant Surgery," at 2 p.m at Discovery Station in downtown Hagerstown.
