National Hunt and Fish Day Saturday



North American Rod and Gun Club will celebrate National Hunt and Fish Day on Saturday at the club.

There will be activities on the archery range, skeet range, trap range, still target range, rifle range, pistol range and BB gun range.

There will be speakers giving seminars on fur trapping, fall hunting, coon hunters, fly fishing and fly tying.

Maryland government agencies will also be on hand, including the Natural Resource Police with their "Wall of Shame."

Activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets cost $5, which covers all activities and includes a hamburger or hot dog, and soft drink. Anyone who buys a ticket and wishes to join the club will receive the ticket price off membership dues. The public is invited.

The club is at 12108 Belvedere Road, Hagerstown.

Food Drive for Food Resources Inc.



Port City Java in the Long Meadow Shopping Center is holding a food drive for Food Resources Inc. until Oct. 15. Nonperishable food items can be deposited in the container in the cafe or dropped off through the drive-through window.

The most-needed items are peanut butter, canned fruits and canned vegetables.

Food Resources is a local nonprofit agency.

TOPS 77



Area captain Parilee Barber visited the chapter to present an exercise program at the last meeting of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77.

The group discussed the fall rally, which will be held in October in Ridge, Md.

The group welcomed back Angie, a former member.

Patsy Martin and Bea Myers tied with a 3-pound loss to win the"Get-R-Done" contest.

The chapter has a couple of weeks left to collect nonperishable foods for Good News Outreach in Meadow Bridge, W.Va. Each member is bringing at least 16 items for this project (one per week.)

At today's meeting, Dorothy Smith will present a program on eating a healthy breakfast. Dina Norris will be leading exercise at 8:30 a.m.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave.

TOPS 446



TOPS Chapter 446 had a good weight loss for the week.

Each member read a quote from the Dr. Nick book and then the members discussed it. Doing this helps the members understand some of the problems they face in their daily lives.

The group welcomed transfer member Carolyn to the chapter.

Parilee Barber, area captain, will lead the program at the Wednesday meeting.
