Coin machine benefits nonprofits

September 21, 2008

Hagerstown Trust Co. began to offer a bulk coin counting service in July.

Hagerstown Trust installed new "Self-Serve" Coin Counting Machines in each branch location. Customers can bring in their loose mixed change in any amount, pour it into the machine and it will sort and count the coins. Customers will be provided with receipts that they can take to the teller and get the cash or deposit it into their Hagerstown Trust account.

The fee for using the machine is 6 percent and all proceeds will be donated to a different local charity each month.

For the first month, which was July, Hagerstown Trust donated $435.18 to Food Resources Inc. In addition, Hagerstown Trust placed collection boxes at each of its locations for residents to drop off nonperishable food items.
