GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Joseph Steven Cody, 54, of Great Cacapon, and formerly of Amissville, Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at his home.

Born April 20, 1954, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late John Michael and Hilda Marie Cody Jakobsen.

He attended North Hunterdon Regional High School in Annandale, N.J.

He had worked as a stone and brick mason.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was a member of Local 569 of New Jersey.

He is survived by two daughters, Jessica DeBolt of Nokesville, Va., and Kira Cody of Elizabethtown, Ky.; four sisters, Louise M. McDowell of Belvedere, N.J., Virginia L. Frechette and Linda L. Rambo, both of Asbury, N.J., and Jacqueline M. Boston of Raubsville, Pa.; three brothers, John M. Jakobsen of Tampa, Fla., Francis R. Jakobsen of Fleetwood, Pa., and Cornelius J. Cody of Asbury; two grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

A funeral liturgy will be offered Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Leonard A. Smith will be celebrant.

Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs.




Morgan Michelle Anders, 25

WINCHESTER, Va. - Morgan Michelle Anders, 25, of Winchester, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Winchester Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident.

Born Jan. 24, 1983, in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Gary and Denise Owens Anders.

She is survived by one son, Noah Vance; grandparents, Garland R. and Helen Wiley Owens of Winchester, and Kathy Anders of Inwood; two aunts, Linda Dadismon of Arkansas and Sharon O. Wilkins of Winchester; and one uncle, Scott Anders of Bunker Hill, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Damion M. Anders.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. Pastor Jim Goforth will officiate. Burial will be private.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Harry Franklin Smith, 78, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008.

Born Feb. 8, 1930, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Charles E. Smith Sr. and Margaret Dorton Smith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth I. Smith.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal.

He was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church,

He was a past member of Bedington Ruritan Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie S. Hammaker of Clear Brook, Va.; one sister, Debra Szablak of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Jacques Smith of Port Republic, Md., and John Smith and Richard Smith, both of Front Royal, Va.; one grandson; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Coulson and Pauline Smith; and one brother, Charles E. Smith Jr.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Pastor Robert Schoof and Pastor Jerry Meade will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty L. Crider, 74

KEEDYSVILLE - Betty Lucille Rohrer Crider, 74, of Keedysville, Md., died Thursday evening, Sept. 18, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 2, 1934, in Fairplay, Md., she was the daughter of the late George T. Rohrer and Sarah C. Griffith Rohrer Mace.

She retired from Londontowne Manufacturing.

She is survived by daughter, Debra A. Glenn and husband, Ezra, of Williamsport; brothers, Joseph Rohrer of South Carolina and James Rohrer of Hagerstown; granddaughter, Jenna R. Clark of Williamsport; and one great-grandson, Donovan B. Wolfensberger.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina J. Crider.

There will be no public viewing, and private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Martha Virginia Royer Layman, 79, of 213C Elder Ave., and formerly of Old Forge Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 15, 1929, in Cascade, she was the daughter of the late Samuel T. and Helen Flohr Royer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. Layman, on Oct. 23, 1997.

She retired from Regency Themographers.
