Hagerstown man charged with sexually abusing 3-year-old

September 19, 2008

A Hagerstown man has been charged with sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl, Washington County District Court records show.

Steven Wayne Stevenson, 26, of no fixed address, was charged Wednesday with sexual abuse of a minor, third-degree sex offense and second-degree assault, court records show.

The charges stem from an investigation that began Aug. 2, when the girl's mother noticed blood in her underwear and took her to Washington County Hospital, Washington County Sheriff's Department Investigator Kenny Barnhart wrote in his application for charges.

Stevenson, who watched the girl while her mother was at work Aug. 1 and 2, told investigators the injury probably happened when she fell from a bunk bed ladder, Barnhart wrote.

In an interview with a Child Advocacy Center member, the girl indicated that Stevenson molested her, according to Barnhart's report.

Stevenson was being held on $150,000 bond Thursday at the Washington County Detention Center, court records show.
