Post to observe POW/MIA Day



Members of Antietam 236, American Legion Family, would like to remind everyone that the third Friday of September is POW/MIA Recognition Day.

On that day, the Lodge remembers our heroes. There are still 78,000 missing from World War II, 8,800 missing from Korea and 6,500 still missing from Vietnam and conflicts since then.

BHS class of '63 to hold basket bingo



The Boonsboro High School class of 1963 will hold a basket bingo at the Brunswick Eagles Club Saturday. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Bingo starts at 6. Tickets cost $25. There will be raffles, five specials, "2nd Chance" and door prizes. Food will be available. Proceeds will finance class activities and Boonsboro High activities. UCC to celebrate Rally Day Sunday



Christ Reformed UCC will celebrate Rally Day for its Sunday School Program on Sunday beginning with breakfast at 9 a.m. and an informal worship service around the breakfast table. The Sunday School is raising money for a Heifer Project by filling the ark with donations. Following a brief Sunday School program there will be game and learning stations for prekindergarten through eighth grade. Sunday School grades K-5 will be held jointly this year with neighboring St. Paul's Episcopal Church along with other youth activities.

Keedysville Ruritan to hold basket bingo



Keedysville Ruritan will sponsor a basket bingo Sept. 27 at the Community Center at 50 Mount Vernon Drive, Keedysville. Tickets cost $15 per person, and seating is limited to 125. Doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo will start at 6 p.m. All reserved seats must be claimed by 5:30 p.m. No one under the age of 13 will be permitted in the building. This is a smoke-free facility. All baskets will be filled, and there will be chance baskets, 50/50, games of chance and king tuts. For more information, call 301-432-2650 or 301-432-0281.

St. Paul's Church thanks community



Saint Paul's Episcopal Church thanks the community for its support of the events at the church during Sharpsburg Heritage Days. The pig roast hosted by the Episcopal Church Women raised more than $1,100, which will be divided between Sharpsburg's Fire Co. and Emergency Medical Service. The "Great Day" Concert raised more than $700 to support the restoration of Tolson's Chapel.

Jackie Willison to speak at senior site



Jackie Willison will speak on the topic "You Be The Judge" Monday, Sept. 22, at the senior site in Keedysville at the Little Antietam Community Center, 40 Mount Vernon Drive. Call manager Martha Drennen at 301-432-5624 for more details.

Weaver, Coleman family to hold reunion



The descendants of Stanley Elvoy Weaver and Mary Elizabeth Coleman Weaver, many of whom live on Hoffmaster, Harpers Ferry and Chestnut Grove roads, will hold a family reunion Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Chestnut Grove Park on Trego Mountain Road from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Families are asked to bring a covered dish.

Paper products and meats will be provided.

Antietam Post 236 to meet



Monthly meetings of American Legion Post 236 are held at the Sharpsburg Ambulance Hall on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Post 236 Commander Lawrence Hoffman welcomes all active members and hopes to see new members. Members are needed to help support the scholarship program, Boys State, Camp West Mar, Christmas for the schoolchildren and veterans.

Little League to hold meeting



South Mountain Little League will be hold a general membership meeting Tuesday Sept. 23, at the Community Building in Shafer Park in Boonsboro beginning at 7 p.m. All parents are encouraged to attend.

Exercises offered at Sharpsburg Library



Instructor Sarah Lefler will lead participants in gentle exercises that can be done sitting or standing (Body & Soul) on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Sharpsburg Public Library. For more information, call 301-432-8825.
