Help the shelter, get frozen custard



For the second year in a row, Meadows Original Frozen Custard, at 222 E. Oak Ridge Drive in the South Pointe Shopping Center in Hagerstown, will hold a cruise-in for the Humane Society of Washington County. This year the event will be Oct. 25 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Anyone who brings a donation for the shelter will receive a free small cone and the opportunity to win a $5 gift certificate from Meadows or a Meadows T-shirt

There will be '50s music and old-fashioned custard.

Bible seminar



The West End Ministerium of Hagerstown is sponsoring a seminar titled "Walk Through The Old Testament" on Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St.

In five hours, the seminar will familiarize you with the Old Testament without taking notes.You will learn 77 major people, place and events for history in a memorable way as we take you through the timelines and geography of biblical events.

The seminar costs $20, which includes $17 for the book and $3 for the meal. If you would like more information or to register, call the church at 301-739-1925

Participating churches include Asbury UMC, St. Matthews UMC, Salvation Army, First Baptist Washington Square UMC, Grace UMC and John Wesley UMC.

Chicken dinner



Don't forget to join the Men of Ebenezer AME (40 Bethel St.) on Sunday at their morning worship and stay to purchase a fried chicken dinner following the service.

The menu will include chicken (white or dark), mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread and dessert.

And on Saturday, Sept. 26, take your car to Long Meadow Exxon and get the dust and dirt off at the car wash.

The Second Christian Church (65 North St.) will host its Deacon's Day program on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Pastor Sheldon Cooper, of Burlington, S.C., will be the guest speaker. The Versatiles from Mount Airy, Md., will perform.

Save the date



Mark your calendars on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. for an organ concert at John Wesley UMC, 129 N. Potomac St., featuring Ken Stoops playing organ works by J.S. Bach, Seth Bingham, Dale Wood and Charles Widor. CDs will be available for sale from last year's concert.

Medical assistance



Do you need assistance paying for medical help? Then be prepared to join the Partnership for Prescription Assistance Program and climb aboard the "Help is Here Express" on Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at Municipal Stadium, 274 E. Memorial Blvd.

The "Help is Here Express" will be equipped with technology and staff to help you find out if you are eligible for help. The event is free.
