Pa. man charged with attempted murder in shooting

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. -- A Fulton County man has been charged with attempted murder after two shots were fired at a woman's vehicle Wednesday night, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Michael Frederick Shives Sr., 43, of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., was also charged with aggravated assault, possessing instruments of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, police said.

Police said Shives and Barbara Allen Smith, 47, of Warfordsburg, Pa., were traveling north on Pa. 522 in separate vehicles Wednesday night when Shives allegedly fired two shots at Smith's vehicle from a revolver. The shots were fired between 9:30 and 10 p.m. between Webster Mills and Union Church Road in Ayr Township, police said. The shots struck the driver's side door of Smith's vehicle, police said.

The shooter continued north on Pa. 522 while Smith stopped at a nearby home and called police, according to the release. She did not require any medical attention, police said.

Shives was found at his home in Big Cove Tannery and arrested without incident, police said. He was being held on $750,000 bond Thursday night at Franklin County Jail.
