Soup and sandwich sale set for Oct. 4

On Saturday, Oct. 4, St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, at 443 W. Franklin St., will hold a soup and sandwich sale, starting at noon.

Ham and bean soup, along with vegetable soup, will be available. Sandwiches will include roast beef and city ham. Orders can be placed by calling 301-739-2653.

Blessing of animals

A blessing of the animals will be held at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 12:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Humane Society of Washington County. If you are interested in adopting a pet, there will be information and shelter personnel available at the blessing. Pet treats will be offered to all animals from PetCo.

Macy's Shop for a Cause Shopping Pass to benefit Humane Society

On Saturday, Macy's will offer a one day Shop for a Cause event to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.


For each $5 donation that is made to the shelter, a shopping pass will be given to the donor. They are permitted to use the shopping pass from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Shopping pass shoppers will also have the opportunity to win a $500 gift card by completing the information requested on the gift card and placing it into a designated collection box at Macy's.

Fall bargain sale set

The Women's Club will hold a fall bargain sale on Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the club at 31 S. Prospect St. A variety of gently used clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and household merchandise will be for sale

A book sale will be held during the evening in the dining room at the club, sponsored by AAUW.
