M&T Bank in Chambersburg robbed

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- The Chambersburg Police Department on Tuesday was searching for a man who held up the M&T Bank branch at the intersection of Lincoln Way East and Third Street.

The man entered the bank at about 8:45 a.m., handed a plastic shopping bag to a teller and demanded she fill the bag with money, police said. The man then fled the bank, and police conducted an extensive search downtown.

The man did not show any weapon or indicate that he had one, police said.

Police described the man as black, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a loose-fitting, white short-sleeve T-shirt and a black-and-white baseball cap.

This was the fourth robbery of an M&T branch in the Chambersburg area since July 28. The branch at 1750 Philadelphia Ave. was held up July 28, Aug. 2 and Aug. 22, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

One suspect has been charged in the July 28 robbery and three men have been charged in the Aug. 22 holdup, state police said.
