September 16, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg man has been charged with 121 counts of sex abuse after it was alleged he had been having sex with his 17-year-old daughter since she was 12, charging documents in Berkeley County Magistrate Court stated Monday.

The man's identity is not being revealed to protect the girl.

The man, who was being held in the Eastern Regional Jail Monday night on $605,000 bond, was charged with 121 counts of sex abuse by a parent or guardian, said court records.

Each charge carries a possible punishment of 10 to 20 years in prison or a fine of between $500 and $5,000 plus the possible jail terms.

West Virginia State Police Sgt. Dave Boober said he met with the girl's mother last Thursday and the mother said her daughter had told her about the abuse, court documents stated.

The girl was interviewed last Friday and she was able to provide descriptive details of numerous incidents of sexual abuse, said court records.

The girl stated that one of the reasons she came forward about the incidents is because she was concerned the same thing was happening to her younger sisters, said court records.
