Public invited to help Antietam Fire Co. celebrate anniversary

Today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 100 block of Summit Avenue from Baltimore to Antietam streets will be closed for activities related to the 200th anniversary celebration.

There will be events and exhibits in the street, at the fire hall and in The Herald-Mail Co. parking lot just across the street.

All kinds of food and beverages will be for sale just north of the fire hall. There will be roast beef sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and ribbon fries.

Sodas, tea and bottled water also will be available.

Tours of the fire hall and equipment are continuous today. There also will be games, Ident-A-Kid by the Hagerstown Police Department, a smoke house, Community Rescue Service car seat safety checks and installations, smoke detector information, a recruitment table, Smokey the Bear, and bicentennial shirts and memorabilia for sale.
