Waynesboro policeman injured in chase

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- A Waynesboro police officer chasing a motorcycle on Thursday hit an embankment and traveled through two yards after a tire blew out on the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car he was driving on Pa. 997, according to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police.

William P. Kauffman, 25, was pursuing a yellow-and-black motorcycle in the 7500 block of Anthony Highway at 8:30 p.m., police said.

The operator of the motorcycle continued to flee without being caught. State police did not specify why the chase began.

Kauffman, who was wearing his seat belt, was uninjured, according to the news release.
