Lane of South Potomac to close for roof work

Beginning at 3 a.m. Monday, the western through-lane of South Potomac Street will be closed between Washington Street and the First Hose Fire Co. so that work crews can install structural steel on the roof of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. The eastern through-lane will remain open to traffic.

Sidewalks on the western side of the street will be closed at either end of the work zone during working hours. Traffic approaching the work zone will encounter cones, barricades, flagpersons and other traffic-control devices. On-street parking will not be available in the work zone.

The contractor anticipates that a crane will remain in place, and that this portion of South Potomac Street will remain closed until Sept. 26.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work zone.

Lane of Md. 68 to close for resurfacing

A $287,000 project to resurface approximately 2 miles of Md. 68 between Barnes Road and Alternate U.S. 40 near Boonsboro is expected to be completed in early October, the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration said in a release.

Single-lane closures along Md. 68 can be expected Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Message signs, barrels and flagpersons will guide motorists through the work zone.

The SHA also is building deceleration lanes for the emergency vehicle crossover along Interstate 70, less than a mile west of Exit 18 (Md. 68) in Washington County.

The $365,000 project is expected to be completed by late fall.

Single-lane closures along eastbound I-70 can be expected Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. Single-lane closures along westbound I-70 can be expected Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 7 a.m. to noon Fridays.
